Number of asylum cases approved from 1990 to 2012
Asylum is a type of immigration relief that is available to persons who have been persecuted by the
government of their country or by persons the government of their country is unable or unwilling to
control. Asylum is also available to persons who have a well founded fear that they would be
persecuted in their country because similarly situated persons have been persecuted. Below are
asylum statistics of the number of asylum cases approved in the U.S. each year from 1990 to 2012.
Asylum can be obtained via the affirmative asylum process or the defensive asylum process. The
distinction between these two is the circumstances of the filing.
Affirmative asylum refers to the process involved with cases where a person requests asylum and
the person is not under threat of removal or deportation. Here you will find the number of persons
granted affirmative asylum each year from 1990 to 2012.
Defensive asylum refers to cases where a person requests asylum as a defense to their deportation.
Here are the number of persons granted defensive asylum each year from 1990 to 2012.
El asilo está disponible para las
personas que han sido perseguidas por,
el gobierno de su país, o por personas
que el gobierno de su país no puede o
no quiere controlar.
El asilo también está disponible para las
personas que tienen un temor bien
fundado de que serían perseguidos en su
país porque personas como ellos han
sido perseguidos.
Aquí encontrará una tabla que
demuestra el número de casos de asilo
que fueron aprobados por el gobierno
cada año desde el 1990 hasta el 2012.
